New Perspectives Theatre Company will perform Playland by writer Athol Fugard on Saturday 21 February at 7.30pm.
The story is set in the heart of South Africa, on New Year’s Eve, where a travelling amusement park has opened its gates. The country is in the midst of a brutal apartheid regime and the park promises an evening of thrills and laughter.
Martinus, a black South African, is the amusement park’s nigh-watchman. Gideon, a white Afrikaner and ex-serviceman, has come along for a good night out. When they find themselves face to face, their encounter is charged with history and danger.
This gripping and moving play is suitable for people aged 16 and up and contains strong language and descriptions of a violent and sexual nature.
Tickets cost £10, £8 for concessions and £5 for students. They can be purchased by calling 01623 413363 or by visiting www.createtheatre.co.uk
