Students quizzed by trainee detectives
Performing arts students helped the police with their enquiries at West Nottinghamshire College last week.
But this was all in the name of training up the next batch of Criminal Investigation Department officers (CID).
On Friday (5 December) the First Year BTEC Performing Arts students put together a specially-produced set of short scenes which are being used to test the investigative and interview techniques of trainee detectives with Nottinghamshire Police.
The detailed role plays took place in the college’s Create Theatre and featured three students acting out a scenario where a mock crime took place. The remainder of the class were then questioned by the police officers who are currently undergoing training to become detectives.
The budding actors worked with their tutor to put together realistic crime scene which the officers would be likely to encounter within their jobs. The scene depicted an incident which involved a drug deal gone wrong resulting in a grievous bodily harm within the mock scenario.
Investigative skills training manager, Paul Brookes, said: “Training needs to be as close to real life as possible, and the assistance from West Notts College students in staging this scenario was invaluable.”
