College excels in national literacy campaign
West Nottinghamshire College has scooped a national award for supporting students through a national reading and adult literacy campaign.
The Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge – now in its eighth year – encourages less confident adult readers to get into reading, develop a reading for pleasure habit and improve their skills.
The college is celebrating winning a bronze award for helping 70 students to complete the challenge throughout the last academic year.
Students from a range of curriculum areas across the college visited the college’s libraries to pick six reads of their choice which included magazines, online articles, poems or comics.
Team leader of learning resources Colin Sawers said: “We really enjoy getting involved in the annual Six Book Challenge and we know that it helps students to enhance both their passion for reading as well as their literacy skills.
“With over 38,000 books, DVDs, magazines and journals available across the college, we’re confident we have a wealth of literature to help people study and discover new reading interests.”
