Students run tourism careers fair
The range of jobs in the travel and tourism industry was promoted by students at a careers fair at West Nottinghamshire College this week.
Travel and tourism students hosted their own careers fair
Students on the second year BTEC Extended National Diploma in Travel and Tourism programme invited guest speakers from a range of companies such as Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and Sherwood Forest to speak to other students about the employment opportunities in the industry on Tuesday (20 May).
Visitors to the careers fair had the opportunity to visit a range of information stands which covered the many kinds of jobs that travel and tourism students can apply for after their studies.
At the event, students were able to meet pilot Jaspal Singh who spoke about his career with Virgin Atlantic – the British airline company owned by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group.
Students also met with ex-student Jamie White. After leaving the college, Jamie worked in America at the Central Michigan University on the Disney graduate programme. He spoke to students about the training and opportunities he’s had since moving overseas to develop his career.
Travel and tourism tutor Leigh-Anne Purdon said: “I’m incredibly proud of how well-prepared, professional and enthusiastic our students were in preparing for and leading on this year’s careers fair.
“They’ve worked hard to show that they understand the criteria for the events management course module and they made the careers fair a lively and informative activity, giving their peers who visited the event inspirational ideas about future employment and training.”
