Nursery’s messy play day
Shaving foam, beans, cornflour and paint were just some of the things being used to create fun at West Nottinghamshire College’s Butterflies Day Nursery this week (4 March).
The Derby Road-based nursery involved up to 50 children in a fun sensory play day, which engaged the youngsters in a range of creative and physical activities.
Children at the nursery, which cares for children aged between six months and five years, got their hands messy making shapes and patterns in a large tub of shaving foam, made multi-coloured footprints with paints, experienced the curious substance of cornflour and water and got to grips with the texture of baked beans.
The activity was staged by the nursery in conjunction with Nottinghamshire Children and Families Partnership’s Talking Tuesday and Fun Sensory Play day and was run in children’s centres, schools and nurseries across Mansfield.
The aim of the day was to encourage and develop talking and listening skills while engaging in sensory activities.
Nursery manager Kelly Pickbourne said: “The children had such great fun and they discovered new ways of expressing themselves through the messy play day.
“We watched them interacting confidently with each other through these activities and it was a pleasure to see them enjoying their day.”
