Terrorism tackled at theatre

Ethics and ethnicity are at the heart of a theatre production which will look at the challenges of modern society this month.

A Girl With a Book

Coming to Mansfield’s Create Theatre on Thursday 27 February, A Girl with a Book tells the story of three girls in Pakistan shot by gunmen in 2012, for wanting to go to school and is told from a writer’s perspective.

The play is written and performed by Nottingham playwright Nick Wood and directed by Andrew Breakwell.

Knowing nothing about the situation, able to offer little more than outrage, the writer is forced to come out from behind his desk and go into the community searching for answers to help him tell the storey of a brave, young woman’s fight for girls’ education.

When his research uncovers attitudes at odds with his liberal convictions, he also has to deal with what he learns about himself.

Create Theatre co-ordinator Adam Pownall said: “We’re proud to be hosting this hard-hitting emotive play at Create Theatre.  It’s always a pleasure to welcome local playwrights and introduce our theatre-goers to great new works.”

Tickets for the production at 7.30pm cost £8 each, £6 for concessions and £5 for students. They can be purchased by visiting www.createtheatre.co.uk or by calling 01623 413363.
