World Class Engineering Company Commences Training With West Nottinghamshire College
West Notts College have recently started working with Bombardier, a world class engineering organisation based in Derby. Workforce development opportunities have been established with Bombardier which include:
- Plant training to up-skill and qualify the workforce to a minimum of level 2 and ultimately level 3 qualifications. This will improve retention performance and reduce accidents and risks.
- Rail track training on their site to all learners to support corporate social responsibility to train people in associated trades within the area and develop sustainable jobs and employment for local people.
- Work force development to up-skill personnel into multi-skilled roles and from unskilled to skilled roles within the organisation.
- Supporting the World Class Manufacturing environment to deliver NVQ2, NVQ3, NVQ4/ Foundation Degrees to production personnel and align with Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing. This will be through the College’s successful Business Improvement Techniques programme.
- Support in recruitment and testing of new workers to ensure fit for purpose and retain if necessary to meet skill gap shortages within the area, such as welding and electronics.
Kevin Thompson, Competence and Compliance Manager at Bombardier in Derby says, "We are looking closely at multi-skilling within our workforce as there are some shortfalls within some of our staff groups. So far, we’ve been rather naive to the government funding available to us for training the workforce, yet through West Nottinghamshire College, they have highlighted to us the many opportunities available. We are looking forward to working with the college soon to be able to offer a range of training to our employees at Bombardier in Derby."
