Talented bunch set for travel
From Bollywood dancing to comedy, students at West Nottinghamshire College will be expressing themselves at a Christmas entertainment show.
Students from the level 2 and 3 travel and tourism programmes are staging a show called ‘Christmas on Broadway’ in the lead up to the festive break. Ticket sales for the show will help to fund their New Year residential trip to New York as well as fundraise for the Mercedes Curnow Foundation – a charity set up to help with the early detection of cervical cancer.
The event, on 19 December, will take place at the college’s Derby Road campus and will feature acts from a number of categories including dance, comedy, game shows and the weird and wonderful.
The second year students on the level 3 courses have been set the task to organise the destination, travel, accommodation and activities for their overseas residential as part of one of their studies for the course. The destination of the overseas residential changes every year, previous years have included Cyprus and Barcelona as well as a cruise around the Canaries.
Student Ellie Manning, 18, said: “This has been a very challenging but exciting event to organise for over 100 spectators. It’s also given us something to work hard towards with a very uplifting reward at the end.
“Not only have we worked hard in order to raise money for our once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York but we’ve been given the opportunity to develop skills such as our organisation skills and events management. This is essential when it comes to planning our residential and will also help us in other areas of our course.”
