Safety in mind at college

A double awareness raising initiative is being staged for students at West Nottinghamshire College next week.

Working in conjunction with two national campaigns, the college’s Students’ Union will be helping students become aware of road safety matters and issues relating to anti-bullying through information stands and activities across all college campuses.

National Road Safety Week, which runs from 18 to 24 November, is focussing on the theme of tuning into road safety and avoiding distractions to help save lives.  The college will be offering advice to students who drive, cycle or walk to and from college to help keep them safe on the roads.

Also throughout next week, the Students’ Union will be highlighting the theme of ‘The Future is Ours. Safe, Fun and Connected’ which is the theme for this year’s national Anti-Bullying Week, running from 18 to 22 November.

Staff will be on hand to help students understand safe online working and how to avoid cyber-bullying and anti-social behaviour in cyberspace.

Learner voice co-ordinator Sue Harries said: “Many students visit the Students’ Union throughout the year, so we’re a central point for offering great advice on such important issues such as bullying and road safety.

“Next week we’ll be visiting as many college campuses as possible to help pass on valuable information to our students so that they can remain vigilant and aware.”
