Students at West Nottinghamshire College joined together to show their respects at a remembrance service held at the Derby Road campus yesterday (7 November).
Two minutes silence was observed at 11am by over 200 learners at the service organised by the college’s Students’ Union.
Three students who are studying on the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services course closed the service with their reading of one of the best-known World War One poems - In Flanders Fields.
Sixteen-year-olds Aaron Vincent, Danielle Mann and Emily Page attended in their Police Cadet uniforms to deliver the reading to students.
The trio will also be taking part in a Remembrance Day parade through Mansfield town on Sunday (10 November) with their fellow police cadets.
President of the Students’ Union Marie Oakton said: “It was very humbling to see so many students join us at the service to remember war heroes of past and present and we collected lots of cash through poppy sales.
“Computer science students created some great visual displays which will be available for students to read all about Remembrance Day and the meaning behind it.”
