Scheme for aspiring tycoons takes off again
A scheme designed to turn business dreams into reality launches for the second year next week, welcoming a guest speaker with an artistic flair.
Vision Entrepreneur – a pioneering programme developed by West Nottinghamshire College – aimed at nurturing job creators of tomorrow, begins again on Tuesday (15 October) and welcomes artist Tim Mayfield to share the story of his success.
In December 2010 Tim came up with a unique concept of turning songs into waveforms and using the barcode-like lines as a paintbrush to create memorable art. His business, FaveWaveArts (FWA), was one of 500 businesses in the BBC3 series ‘Be Your Own Boss’.
During the programme Innocent Smoothies co-founder Richard Reed missed his opportunity to invest in Tim’s brand, but this boosted Tim’s drive to make his concept a success.
Tim will share the secrets to his success with guests at this first motivational speech of 2013. Young people from the area are welcome to attend the session at the college’s Derby Road campus at 12.30-1.30pm.
Following the success of last year’s Vision Entrepreneur programme four new businesses have launched after going through the scheme which included learning how to put a successful business plan together, getting financial advice from expert bankers and local business entrepreneurs.
