Students put skills and enterprise into practice
Two painting and decorating students are getting their brushes and paints ready for a showcase of their work at a Mansfield Woodhouse business next week.
West Nottinghamshire College students Rebecca Harrington, 34, and Anna Lodge, 31, are holding a VIP evening to show off their decorating skills at Atmospheric Interiors off Woodhouse Road on Thursday (4 July), which is owned by Alison and Phil Constantine.
The duo will be putting their new skills into practice throughout the day and redesigning an area of the shop using a range of specialist wallpapers, as well as repainting the exterior of the property.
Anna and Rebecca have almost finished their painting and decorating level 2 diploma at the college’s Construction and Logistics Skills Academy in Kirkby-in-Ashfield and are completing business advice workshops staged by Vision Entrepreneur, to help them launch their own business.
Alison, who has acted as the girls’ mentor through the college’s Vision Entrepreneur scheme is opening the new mirror showroom at Atmospheric Interiors which they have decorated, this weekend.
Rebecca said: “We’ve really benefitted from attending the enterprise workshops and it’s been great working with Alison who has helped us to learn more about setting up in business so we’re delighted to thank her by decorating her store.
“We’re very busy getting the business off the ground and putting all the great advice from Alison into practice. We hope people will like our work at Atmospheric Interiors and come and discover the wide range of decorative effects that we can offer.”
Alison said: “I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to help Anna and Rebecca with practical advice and to act as a sounding board for their ideas.
“I wish them all the very best for the future with their new business. Our new mirror showroom looks incredible and I’m really pleased with the hard work and attention to detail they’ve shown and I’m sure people will be impressed with their work.”
