A world of skills for IT students
Two West Nottinghamshire College computing students are celebrating after securing places at a regional IT competition.
George Morris and Scott Clewlow, both 17, beat off rivals from other East Midlands’ colleges at the regional heats of WorldSkills UK Microsoft competitions, held at Luton’s Barnfield College.
Church Warsop resident George, a student on the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT (Networking and System Support), came first in the Microsoft Network Administrator competition.
Meanwhile, his colleague Scott, from Warsop, is awaiting the decision from judges to confirm his fourth place in the same competition.
The duo were challenged to develop a virtual network, configure user accounts and create security policies and procedures.
Curriculum manager for computer science, Piers Ching, said: “This is the third year running that the college’s computer science students have scored a first place in these competition heats. We’re also hoping that we’ll be congratulating our own champion at the finals.
“This year’s result is a testimony to all the hard work that students and staff have put in.”
George and Scott are now waiting to discover if they have secured places in the national finals which will take place later this year at Birmingham’s NEC.
Managed by WorldSkills UK, the competitions encourage young people and adults across the country to excel in their vocational area to recognise those who have developed exceptional skills.
WorldSkills UK national finalists may be shortlisted for the team that goes on to represent the UK at the next WorldSkills Competition, which is the biggest international skills competition in the world.
