Children’s hospice benefits from kind students
Kind-hearted students from West Nottinghamshire College’s Lifestyle Academy handed over a bumper cheque to a children’s hospice on yesterday (24 June).
The students, who are on cookery courses at the Derby Road campus, have raised £382.50 through a number of fundraising initiatives to help Sheffield-based Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers care and support to children and young adults with a shortened life expectancy both in their own homes and at the hospice.
Catering and hospitality students raised the cash through selling bread and cakes and through other initiatives such as prize raffles, name the soft toy competition and sales of second hand books.
The students welcomed Emma Vizor, Bluebell Wood’s area fundraiser for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to hand over the cheque.
Emma said: “The students should feel very proud of their fundraising efforts. Without donations such as these the charity wouldn’t be able to carry on offering the patients and relatives the care and facilities.
“It costs over £3m each year to run Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and this money will go towards creating the facilities and memories that the children and their families need during their time with us.”
