Students provide songs and games for elderly
Students at West Nottinghamshire College organised a sing-a-long and quiz at a coffee morning for the elderly yesterday (18 June).
Ladies and gentlemen from the Mansfield and Ashfield area spent a morning enjoying tea and coffee and singing songs from their era with students at the college’s Derby Road campus.
The group, who attend Mansfield-based charity Jigsaw’s befriending lunches, visited the college to socialise with students and other members of the group and took part in a quiz.
At the event, which was supported by the college’s enterprise society called ‘Ignite’, the group enjoyed a lunch at the college’s new fine dining restaurant – Refined.
Students were also able to find out more about how to get involved with volunteering for Jigsaw which saw a quarter of its volunteers secure employment last year.
These students have been fortunate to have access to a £3,400 start-up grant through the National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs (NACUE) which supports the growth of enterprise societies and works with 135 colleges and universities across the UK.
This money has enabled the students to provide catering for the themed coffee mornings and subsidised lunches and for further projects to be planned in the future.
