Students get together for Big Lunch
Lunchtime took a celebratory twist for students at West Nottinghamshire College this Wednesday (5 June).
Up to 150 students from across the college campuses were invited a Wimbledon-themed Big Lunch, organised by the Students’ Union.
Each school of learning was asked to nominate fifteen top achieving students to attend the celebratory buffet which featured a guest magician, free drinks and food including the Wimbledon tradition of strawberries and cream.
The Big Lunch was born from an idea at the Eden Project and aims to get as many people as possible from across the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in an act of community, friendship and fun.
It began in 2009 and thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all types of community venues across the UK.
Learner voice co-ordinator Sue Harries said: “The college’s Big Lunch was a wonderful opportunity for us to congratulate just some of the hard-working and dedicated students at West Notts.
“The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone had fun and enjoyed each other’s company and the entertainment.
“It proved to be a great chance for students from different schools of learning to meet people they’ve never met before and there was a wonderful sense of camaraderie.”
Every student who was invited to the Big Lunch brought along a kind donation of tinned or dried food to add to the college’s growing hamper donation for Mansfield homeless charities The Beacon Project and The Halls Homeless Support Project.
