A culmination of creativity at Create
A creative extravaganza is coming to West Nottinghamshire College as students across the school of creative industries and digital technologies stage their end-of-year shows for family, friends and members of the public.
The end-of-year showcase consists of theatre productions, live music, a live chat show, a fashion show and exhibitions of art and design, media, film and computer science.
HND Performing Arts students have already put the creative wheels in motion with their rework of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus which had a double showing on 21 and 22 May.
More acting talents will be showcased when level 3 students perform Stephen Sondheim’s mysterious musical tale – Into The Woods. They will take on the characters of well-known fairy tales in the Create Theatre on Tuesday 11 June shown at a matinee 2pm performance or the 7pm show.
The following evening (12 June), further level 3 performance students will perform Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at 7pm. Tickets for both shows cost £5 and can be purchased in advance from the college by calling 01623 413363 or through www.createtheatre.co.uk
A creative exhibition of work by art, fashion, media, computer science as well as graphic design and interactive media students in the Create building will be officially opened by principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE at a private viewing for students, their families and VIPs at 6.30pm on Thursday 13 June.
The free exhibition is open to the public from Friday 14 June until Friday 21 June in the college’s Create building at the Derby Road campus and entry is free.
Thursday will also be when BTEC Extended Diploma and HND fashion students put their latest designs on the catwalk as they show off their collection called ‘A Walk in the Park’ featuring avant garde and retro fashion garments along with children’s wear based on fairy tales. The show starts at 1pm in the Create Theatre.
The media, film and computer science exhibition then runs until Friday 21 June and includes visual work, animations, film, gaming and computer-controlled robotics.
Head of creative industries and digital technologies, Steve McAlone, said: “Every year staff, students and their families, along with members of the public thoroughly enjoy the showcase of events which the students put on to show off their final projects.
“This year, we’re particularly delighted to be exhibiting and performing at the college within the Create building, which is where our students develop and nurture their creative talents before going on to university or successful careers.”
