Students skip to it for hospital funds
Childcare students were praised for skipping lessons at West Nottinghamshire College yesterday (20 May).
That’s because they were taking part in a sponsored skipping activity to raise funds for a Nottingham hospital.
Almost 40 students, who are studying on the Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce programme, took part in an hour-long skipping exercise focussing on doing the maximum number of skips during that time.
They performed single skipping and double Dutch-style skipping with two ropes in the college’s sports hall at the Derby Road campus.
Sponsorship money raised by the students will be presented to the children’s oncology ward at The Queen’s Medical Centre which is part of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Early years tutor Joanne Wilkinson said: “Everyone has been so enthusiastic about the skip-a-thon both in terms of getting as many sponsors as possible and practicing their fast skipping skills.
“Today proved yet again how well our students work as a team and I’m so pleased that we’re well on the way to raising over £300 for the children’s cancer ward.”
