A real way with words at West Notts College
A prize poetry competition has revealed literary talents among staff and students at West Nottinghamshire College.
The competition was launched by the Learning Resource Centres in March and was open to all staff and students.
Over 50 entries were received in total, giving the panel of judges plenty of choice to select a shortlist. The two winners were presented with book token prizes on Tuesday (30 April) by deputy principal Patricia Harman.
The winning learner entry came from Foundation Diploma Art and Design student Christopher Baggaley, from Mansfield Woodhouse, with his poem called Curbar Edge.
Christopher said: “My poem reflects a current piece of screen print work that I’m painting at the moment. I think people who read this poem should be able to get a very clear picture in their mind of this landscape.”
The winning staff entry came from learning resources assistant Anne McDonald with her entry called The Dance of Words, based around what happens when books come to life after the library closes.
Anne said: “I can just imagine the books springing to life after the lights go out in the library and from that image in my mind the idea grew into this poem.”
