Business boost for young engineers

West Nottinghamshire College tutors are calling on businesses in Mansfield, Ashfield and Nottingham to support the engineers of the future.

To help inspire the next generation of engineers, the college is asking companies which specialise in engineering, motor vehicle engineering and logistics to offer students the chance to experience life in the workplace.

The request ties in with the engineering curriculum’s industry week which is running from 15-19 April and has been designed for students aged 16 and above to meet employers and learn more about the careers they could progress to.

Project manager in engineering Richard Baskerville said: “Our students are equipped with new skills to help them succeed in a modern engineering environment.  What would help students to plan for their futures is to gain some experience within a real-life setting.

“We’re asking local businesses if they would kindly offer a student a week’s experience within their company to provide them with a great insight into the industry.”

Industry week will support students on mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, fabrication and welding and motor vehicle engineering programmes and highlight career opportunities available to them. Engineering businesses are invited to visit the Sovereign Way, Acorn Way and Derby Road campuses to give talks or demonstrations.

Businesses who can support the request to provide work experience for a student or wish to come to the college’s engineering campuses to give a talk or demonstration should contact Richard Baskerville on 01623 627191 ext 8523 or email Richard.baskerville@wnc.ac.uk
