Turning trash to cash for homeless charity

A recycling initiative at West Nottinghamshire College has turned old printer cartridges and mobile phones into cash for a Mansfield homeless charity.

A cheque for £100 was presented to Tony Lee, chairman of The Hall Homeless Support Project today (17 December) by print team leader Alan Sheppard and procurement manager and procurement officer Angie Pilgrim and Garry Checklin.

The money was raised throughout the year by recycling printer cartridges used at the college as well as old mobile phones and exchanging them for cash.

The college has supported The Hall Homeless Support Project for a number of years and this was just one of many donations given to the charity this year to help homeless people who use the service at its Westfield Lane premises.

Tony said: “Once again our thanks go to West Notts College for their thoughtful donation to the project.

“Most of this money will go towards purchasing items for the food parcels which we hand out to people who are referred to our centre.  When an individual or a family comes to collect a food parcel, we can chat to them and help and advise them further regarding their circumstances as well as provide them with some food essentials.”
