Students put on Christmas and contemporary shows
A double helping of student performances are to take place in West Nottinghamshire College’s Create Theatre from next week.
First to star will be the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts 2nd year students as they explore the exciting and ever-changing face of modern theatre during their Contemporary Theatre Festival with Martin Crimp’s ‘Attempts on her Life’.
This show, also directed by the students, will be performed on Tuesday (11 December) at 2pm and 7pm and will explore hard-hitting themes using challenging theatre styles from theatre practitioners such as Artaud, Boal, Grotowski and Brecht. Tickets cost £3 per person. The recommended audience age is 14 and upwards.
Rebecca Slack, who performs in the production, said: “It’s a play that gave us a challenge because of the issues involved; such as suicide and depression, and we have to tell a story of a girl the audience never actually meet which is an interesting concept.”
The following week will see both year 1st and 2nd year students from the Level 3 Extended Diploma come together for a Christmas Showcase. Fun Christmas-themed drama sketches and movement pieces will be showcased and the audience will have the chance to suggest ideas for the students to improvise scenes.
This final show of the year will be on Monday (17 December) from 7pm with tickets costing £3 per person or £2 for concessions.
