Students’ work is picture perfect
A display of five canvas paintings created by students at West Nottinghamshire College has today (Thursday 22 November) been unveiled at The Lindhurst Rooms by Mansfield Mayor Tony Egginton.
Second year students on the Extended Diploma in Art and Design course were tasked with designing artwork using a ‘masquerade’ theme for the centre’s Lindhurst Room banqueting suite, ahead of the Christmas party season.
The challenge was set by Darrell Farnsworth, general manager at Sodexo Prestige, which runs the venue within the centre on Chesterfield Road South, along with events co-ordinator Kim Waite.
Visual arts tutor Rob Hart said: “The canvases were split into grids, into which students painted their designs before passing them on to the next group.
“Each group was allowed to ‘mask over’ half the original painting but had to preserve the remainder in order for the works to be completed by their classmates, bringing a range of artistic styles and influences.
“The results are very impressive and we hope the paintings will be enjoyed by people using the venue over the festive season.”
Darrell said: "The artwork looks fantastic and has really helped to brighten up the venue for our Masquerade Ball Christmas parties.
“The project was a great opportunity for the college to work with a local commercial business, as well as a chance for students to showcase their talents to the thousands of customers who attend our events.
“We’re very pleased with the quality of the work and are proud to display it.”
