Contemporary musical theatre hits Create
A cabaret-style revue of songs from new musicals comes to West Nottinghamshire College’s Create Theatre next week.
Featuring four of the region’s finest vocalists Morven Harrison, James Nelson, Cat Orton and Gareth Wynne, the piece will showcase songs from musicals such as Songs for a New World, The Last Five Years, Company, Into the Woods, Little Women, Spamalot and The Wild Party.
Heart and Music – by locally-based Debut Theatre Company – will be at the college’s new Create Theatre on Saturday (27 October) from 7.30pm.
The cast are currently all working within the music and theatre industries in different capacities. James Nelson, who trained at the London School of Musical Theatre is currently appearing in the West End smash hit musical Spamalot penned by Monty Python member Eric Idle and based on The Holy Grail.
James said: “It’s great for us to be performing our show at the new Create Theatre. I think it’s a great chance for people in Nottinghamshire to hear songs from current musicals that they may not otherwise get the opportunity to hear performed live outside of London.
“I’m looking forward to a more intimate performance which will be very different from playing to big houses in the West End. We had a rehearsal in the theatre space and the acoustics are perfect for what we need.”
Musical director, Jon Orton, added: “The guys have been working really hard on some very complex songs and harmonies which are sounding great! We all have a real buzz about the show and are grateful of the chance to be performing to the local Mansfield community, as myself and Cat are both Mansfield-based.”
Tickets cost £8 or £5 for concessions and can be purchased from the box office on 01623 413363 or by visiting www.createtheatre.co.uk
