See the funny side of Mansfield at college theatre
Theatre-goers can see the funny side of Mansfield at a performance at West Nottinghamshire College’s new theatre next week.
The comedy, called I Love Mansfield, is being shown on Thursday evening (4 October) at 7.30pm in the Create Theatre at the Derby Road campus.
Written by Mark Whiteley and performed by Hard Graft Theatre company, the show is about an ordinary couple from Mansfield on one of the most extra-ordinary days of their lives.
Tickets cost £8 and £5 for concessions. And in recognition of the I Love Mansfield theme, holders of the I Love Mansfield Privilege Card – issued by Mansfield’s Business Improvement District – are entitled to £1 discount on tickets.
In 2006 Nottinghamshire-based writer Mark Whiteley travelled the country looking for inspiration for a new play. After visiting 56 charity shops across the UK he found a little bit of magic in Mansfield.
He said: “I sat with charity shop workers, helping serve, making the tea until out of the blue one of the volunteers told me a story and I wrote it down.
“Charity shop volunteers are the unsung heroes of our community. They are an army of kind souls with a love of life and the compassion to help others and we need to applaud their selfless actions.”
