Caring students to host coffee mornings
Students at West Nottinghamshire College’s BAY6 Centre and coffee bar are getting the cups and saucers ready to take part in the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ next week.
The centre, on Woodhouse Road, Mansfield, is preparing to host its own coffee morning from 10am-12pm on Friday (28 September) to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual event.
Students will be raising funds by selling coffee, cakes and snacks and beauty therapy students from the town centre-based Academy will be coming in to offer nail-filing and painting to customers for a small sum to the charity.
The following Monday (1 October), students at the centre will be recognising national Older People’s Day by inviting local pensioners’ group – ‘This Life Mansfield’ – for coffee and cakes.
This year’s UK Older People’s Day is about sharing the skills and experience between different generations.
Programme area leader for BAY6 Diana Fennell said: “We’ve welcomed this group as guests at BAY6 many times before. Our students wanted to host a coffee morning on Older People’s Day and show the ladies and gentlemen how their customer service skills are developing.
“I’m sure our learners will also want to hear about their lives and experiences throughout the morning as well.”
The college’s BAY6 centre provides a practical training and working environment for students with learning difficulties or disabilities and the cafe is open to the public for hot and cold refreshments.
