College says it's easy being green

Caring for the environment has paid off for eco-friendly students at West Nottinghamshire College.

The college has scooped the Green Impact Students’ Union (SU) bronze award for its dedication to environmental good practice in and around its campuses.

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation and awards scheme launched by the National Union of Students in 2005.

Over the past year the SU has been involved in a number of campaigns designed to save money, energy and the environment.  Activities have included several litter picks to tidy up the local area, recycling printer ink cartridges across college campuses and paper recycling campaigns.

It was for these sustainable initiatives that the college was presented with the bronze award at the recent Green Impact Awards ceremony in Manchester.

Learner voice co-ordinator Sue Harries said: “I’m so proud that the Students’ Union has won this award, which recognises how incredibly hard students have worked to improve their local environment.

“We place a lot of emphasis on teaching students the importance of respecting their environment, which is all part of being a good citizen and boosts their sense of pride.”
