Students in charity cash boost
Kind-hearted students from West Nottinghamshire College’s lifestyle academy hand over cheques totalling £678 to Andrea Hudson, community fundraiser at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
Students staged a series of fundraising initiatives to help the Sheffield-based hospice create a room for terminally-ill teenagers.
Catering and hospitality students raised £210 by selling bread, pasta, hotdogs and cakes in the college’s Number 19 Brasserie, while travel and tourism students raked in £418 through a sponsored fancy dress, raffle and cake sales.
Students on the college’s newly-formed enterprise team raised an additional £50 by selling their ‘Forest Ferret’ brand of jams and preserves.
Bluebell Wood became the students’ charity of choice after they were inspired by catering tutor Lynne Booth’s coast-to-coast cycle ride three years ago to boost funds for the hospice.
Fundraiser Andrea Hudson said: "I'd like to thank all the students for their inspired and unusual fundraising ideas in support of our charity. It sounds like all the students had a lot of fun thinking of the ideas and raising the money!
"Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice cares for children with a shortened life expectancy. It costs £3m annually to provide these services and our charity receives no statutory government funding. It is only with the support of groups like the college students that we can continue to help as many local families as we do.
"If you've been inspired by the West Nottinghamshire College students to hold your own fundraising event for Bluebell Wood, then please get in touch with me at the hospice on 01909 517 360."
