Top marks for college nursery
Parents and staff are celebrating after a college day nursery received top marks from Ofsted.
Butterflies Day Nursery, part of Vision West Notts, was graded ‘outstanding’ across-the-board following a recent inspection – gaining the highest-possible scores in all 17 categories.
The inspector who visited the facility, at the Derby Road campus in Mansfield, found that:
- Overall quality of provision is outstanding;
- It is run by an excellent staff team, who are highly-motivated, have an excellent understanding of child development and meet all children’s needs outstandingly;
- Children are making excellent progress in their learning;
- Activities support a range of children’s abilities, needs and interests;
- Staff vigilantly safeguard children in their care;
- Excellent partnerships are in place with parents and others;
- Babies are happy and settled, and older children are independent, confident and well-behaved;
- Children receive healthy, well-balanced meals which meet their dietary needs.
Making more effective use of outdoor play areas so that children can choose from a wider range of activities was the only recommendation for improvement.
Meanwhile, nursery manager Kelly Pickbourne came in for special praise – being described as an “excellent role model and a very good leader”.
Said Miss Pickbourne: “This is great news for everybody connected with the nursery. The report confirms that children in our care are happy, safe and receive excellent early years education.
“We’re committed to providing children and parents with the best-possible service and being judged outstanding is testament to the hard work and dedication of our nursery team who ensure that every child matters.”
The nursery, which employs 17 staff including professionally-trained nursery nurses, caters for children of college staff, students and the public. Children range from six-week-old babies to pre-school five-year-olds.
