Five-star ratings for college catering outlets
Two food outlets at Vision West Notts have been given the thumbs up by environmental health chiefs.
Both ‘The Diner’ and the No. 19 Brasserie at the college’s Derby Road campus in Mansfield have scored the highest-possible five-star ratings under Mansfield District Council’s ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme following recent inspections.
The inspections focussed on standards of food hygiene and safety, cleanliness and compliance in the management and control of food services.
The Diner serves hot and cold meals, snacks and refreshments to staff, students and visitors, along with ‘home-cooked’ dishes and cuisine from around the world.
The Number 19 Brasserie, which is open to the public, boasts three training kitchens and a restaurant for students aiming for careers in the catering and hospitality industries. Students prepare and serve meals to staff, students and members of the public during lunchtimes and evenings, which include regular Friday ‘Fine Dining’ evenings.
Principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE said: “I’m delighted that our student diner and training restaurant have received such glowing reports from the council.
“Health and hygiene are two of the core disciplines we teach our catering and hospitality students, so it’s great that we passed with flying colours, which reflects our high standards in these areas.
“The college prides itself on serving up high-quality cuisine to students, staff and visitors and these excellent ratings show that our hygiene is second-to-none.”
Scores on the Doors is an initiative run by local authorities to publicise information on hygiene inspections of businesses that serve, prepare or sell food. Supported by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH), the main aim is to raise standards of food safety for consumers.
