Creative students reach elite status
Ten talented students at Vision West Notts have been chosen to join two specially-created elite groups.
One group will act as a dedicated news crew, filming events and activities around college, while the other will assist with musical productions and mentoring fellow music students.
Creative media production students Kirsty Simpson, Rebecca Hill, Sam Garland, Amber Evans and Cole Burrage are known as the ‘Elite News Crew’. They will use their film-making skills to produce news stories that will feature on the college’s website, as well as film high-profile performances and events at Vision West Notts.
The students will also develop the college’s own internet television channel where the public will be able to view their news and films.
Meanwhile, music students Timothy Knight, Lucy King, Ben Smith, Dean Oxley and Brett Baker make up the ‘Elite Musicians’. Their roles will see them supporting the production aspect of performances within the state-of-the-art recording and performance spaces in the college's new £5m Create building at its Derby Road campus.
They will also use their own musical talents and experience to provide instrumental guidance and mentoring to fellow music students.
The college’s creative industries and digital technologies curriculum created the prestigious groups to give students vocational experience and raise their aspirations. It hopes to set up two further elite teams – for multimedia and performing arts students – in 2012, with the four making up an ‘Elite Create Students' Team’.
Head of creative industries and digital technologies, Steve McAlone, said: “The quality of applications for these prestigious roles was really impressive and each student demonstrated enthusiasm, professionalism and a willingness to try new things alongside their studies.
“We’re confident that not only will these learners improve their own creative knowledge and produce exciting material, they will also act as positive role models for fellow students.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the variety of work produced by our first two elite groups.”
