Newcomer to West Nottinghamshire College to offers fitness for staff and students
A new face at West Nottinghamshire College is promising to bring improved fitness levels to staff and students.
Rachael Evans has joined the College as Sports Development Co-ordinator and is busy planning her first schedule of health and fitness events.
The 27-year-old arrives from Blaby District Council, where she worked as physical activity co-ordinator. This role saw her putting together many successful campaigns to improve the physical fitness and well-being of over-16s – something she is aiming to repeat at the College.
“I’m really looking forward to getting students and staff at West Notts interested in improving their fitness and getting excited about exercise,” said Rachel.
“I know lots of people are wary about putting their bodies under pressure especially if they’re not used to exercise but I really hope that together with the Health, Safety and Welfare team I can further promote the fact that a healthier lifestyle leads to a happier lifestyle.
I’m really keen to introduce people at the College to some of the easy first steps to improving their fitness.”
Rachael’s first step will be to launch a jogging club for students and staff on Thursdays at the Derby Road campus from 4.30pm, which she hopes will spur people to enter the popular Race for Life event in June, which raises money for Cancer Research UK and is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK.
She added: “The club will cater for every type of ability, with easier routes for those less able, and I really hope that many of those who join take up the opportunity to enter one of the Nottingham-based Race For Life events.”
Rachael will also be getting involved in a number of fun-based activities to help raise funds for charity. A three-legged race has been organised for Comic Relief week, taking place at the Derby Road campus on 13 March from 12-1pm and a number of students have already started to gather sponsorship.
