Students help community shape up
Budding personal fitness trainers at Vision West Notts are helping a local community group get in shape.
Learners studying the NVQ Level 3 in Personal Training have run a three-week fitness training course to users of the Pleasley Hill Sure Start Children’s Centre, Mansfield.
Up to 20 individuals at the centre, on Woburn Lane, have been given a free personalised fitness programme including blood pressure testing, cardiovascular tests, advice on nutrition and body-strengthening exercises.
Students have provided the one-to-one health programme as part of their course work and will meet with their clients in six weeks’ time to assess how well they have adapted to their training regime.
Student Simon Gunn (33), from Hucknall, said: “It’s been a really successful programme for both the class and our clients. It was nerve-wracking at first, as you’ve got a person's health in your hands, and it’s your responsibility to put a dedicated health and fitness programme together based on their needs.
“We’re looking forward to seeing our clients again in a few weeks to discover how well they’ve done with their tailor-made programmes. It’s given us budding personal trainers a wonderful insight into the world of work.”
