Students strive for cleaner streets
Students at Vision West Notts will being doing their bit for the environment next week.
Up to 20 learners will be collecting litter around the college's Derby Road campus and along Nottingham Road on Thursday (20 October) as part of Keep Britain Tidy’s Big Tidy Up campaign.
The activity has been organised by the college’s Students’ Union and follows a litter-pick conducted by students in March.
It will see the volunteers wearing distinctive bright green 'Big Tidy Up' bibs and gloves for their mission.
Students’ Union president James Stafford said: “We had such great feedback from the litter-pick along Nottingham Road earlier this year that we decided to do it again. Our volunteers will also tackle the Derby Road campus as part of the clean-up mission.
“Not only did the previous litter-pick give our students a sense of pride and satisfaction, local residents told us how much better the road looked afterwards.”
The Big Tidy Up is one of many voluntary initiatives the Students’ Union is organising for students to get involved in. Future volunteering projects include collecting clothing for homeless people in Mansfield, tree-planting in the community as part of the Queen’s diamond jubilee and more litter-picking across other college sites.
