Students put college in the picture
Art students at Vision West Notts have unveiled a series of imaginative and colourful murals at the college’s Chesterfield Road campus.
Over the summer period, tutors set the first year Extended Diploma Art and Design learners a ‘bridging project’ to produce artwork for the walls at Ashfield House, which is home to art and design students.
Students were briefed that their work should reflect the spirit of the building and the creativity of the students within it and be completed within a two-week deadline.
The four winning designs, each measuring two by six metres, were unveiled today (22 September) and the students who now in the second year of the course joined tutors and fellow classmates to receive prizes for their efforts. Each team’s designer received a £20 voucher to spend in the college’s art shop and every artist involved in the project took home an artist’s sketch pad.
Leon Judge, 21, from Mansfield was co-designer on one of the murals which spells “ART?” He said: “Our design needed to be something which was workable for the whole team involved. I wanted it to be bold but not too daunting to tackle.
“We’re all amazed with the final project and as a team we put over 60 hours of work into creating the mural.”
