Unique summer scheme is just the job
A unique scheme to help Mansfield school-leavers find a job while gaining new skills is under way.
The ‘Summer Job Shop’ – which is helping 60 young people aged 16 to 18 prepare for employment through workshops and activities, with the aim of getting a third of them into paid apprenticeships – was officially launched earlier this month by Mansfield District Council, West Notts College and its recruitment service, Vision Apprentices.
The programme runs two-and-a-half days a week over a three-week period, starting Monday 25 July, with support on offer including career and employability workshops, ‘try a trade’ sessions, help creating a professional CV and a chance to meet employers looking to recruit new employees. Attendees are paid £20 a week while on the programme and have a chance to apply for job vacancies at the end.
