Chair of governors named in Queen’s Birthday Honours
Staff and governors at West Nottinghamshire College are celebrating after chair of governors, Jean Hardy, was named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2011 for her services to education.
Mrs Hardy, who joined the board of governors in 1992 and has served as chair for the last 15 years, was awarded the MBE in today’s announcement (Saturday 11 June 2011).
Welcoming the news, Mrs Hardy, from Little Carlton, near Newark, said: “I am absolutely delighted and honoured to receive an MBE for my services to education. I have enjoyed immensely my 20 years with West Nottinghamshire College and as chair I’ve seen it go from strength to strength.
“We have had incredible success over this time, not least in our recent history. The support of every governor and every single member of staff has made this success possible and I would like to thank them all for their tireless commitment and hard work.
“It’s a great honour to receive such recognition for my contribution to the success of the college’’.
Asha Khemka OBE, principal and chief executive, said “This is a well-deserved honour and we are delighted for Jean and her family. Governors are often the unsung heroes in colleges and Jean is no exception.
“She has tirelessly given her time, both to the college and local community, and has led our board of governors with integrity and passion. Her personal support to me as principal has been invaluable in steering the college towards the huge success we have enjoyed.”
