Visual artists to exhibit in Mansfield

Art and design students are set to showcase work from their final major projects at an exhibition in Mansfield.

Learners from West Nottinghamshire College’s art and design, multimedia, graphic design and fashion and textiles courses will be launching an exhibition to the public on Thursday 16 June at Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery.

The exhibition will be officially unveiled at 6pm on Wednesday 15 June by college principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE, with students’ work on display to the public free of charge from 16 to 24 June between 10am and 5pm, except Sundays.

Following the launch of the exhibition, VIPs and pupils from local schools in Mansfield will enjoy a fashion show in the Old Library, Mansfield, courtesy of students on the national diploma in fashion and textiles, art and design, and foundation 18+ courses.

The catwalk and collections will be tailored towards everything organic, with a white, fresh theme, featuring splashes of colour.

Curriculum manager for visual arts and design, Chris Denyer, said: “This year’s art and design exhibition and fashion show provides a great opportunity for the public to see a diverse range of work produced by some of the best local artists and designers.

“We’re very proud of our students, who have developed skills, enthusiasm and unique styles in their specialist areas throughout the duration of their courses and are a real credit to themselves and the college.”

Many of the students who are exhibiting their final major projects will progress to specialist art, design and fashion degrees at a range of national universities including the prestigious Goldsmiths College at the University of London.

Others will continue their studies at West Notts College through the HND in Fashion and Textiles and the HND in Interactive Media.
