Students to stage ‘Great Poppy Party’
West Nottinghamshire College students are standing ‘shoulder to shoulder’ next month at a party dedicated to raising cash for the Royal British Legion.
The Great Poppy Party is being staged by childcare students and the college’s Students’ Union on Thursday 9 June at the college’s Number 19 Brasserie at the Derby Road campus.
To celebrate the Royal British Legion’s 90th anniversary the college wanted to help the charity achieve its mission to raise £90 million - £1 million for every year of its existence.
The party is open to the public and tickets cost £2.50 which entitles guests to a drink and a cake. The party will run from 3-5pm and there will be a tombola, raffle, cake sales and jewellery sales to help raise further funds.
During the party students will run a slide show to highlight the work of the Royal British Legion which provides welfare to the whole Armed Forces family including serving and ex-service people and their families, as well as supporting the annual Poppy Appeal.
Early years, care and education co-ordinator, Melanie Street, said: “Our childcare students have a reputation of being some of the best fundraisers at the college so it was a pleasure to be asked by the Students’ Union to help to host this very important party.
“I am sure every one of us knows or has known somebody who has served in the Armed Forces and we’d like to invite members from our communities to come along and join us at this fundraising party.”
Tickets can be purchased from Melanie by calling 01623 627191 ext 8572 or via the Students’ Union on ext 8176.
