College swimmers off to Bath
Three students from West Nottinghamshire College have qualified to represent the East Midlands in a swimming event at a national championship next week.
Jordan Chadburn (17), Shaquille Hamilton (17) and Steven Catton (16) will be taking part in a swimming competition at the British Colleges Sport (BCS) national championships being held at Bath University from 8-10 April.
The multi-sport event will involve up to 2,500 students from across the UK, who will be representing their college’s regions. BCS is a membership organisation representing the sporting interests of students and further education colleges across the UK.
The trio won their swimming races at the East Midlands regional swimming championships at the University of Nottingham back in December – earning them the chance to represent the East Midlands at the national championships.
Sport and exercise science student Jordan will be competing in the 50m freestyle; Shaquille, a public services student, will perform the 100m backstroke, while Steven, also a public services student, will compete in the 100m butterfly category.
The college's sports development co-ordinator Craig Homer said: “These young men have proved their strength and endurance in swimming and I have every confidence they will go on to do even better at the national championships.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them compete in Bath and hopefully walking away with new medals.”
