Serco's success
One of the world’s leading service and outsourcing companies has joined forces with the college to boost the skills of its staff and is now celebrating success with employees.
Serco Group plc chose West Notts to provide its staff with vital qualifications. ‘Skills for Life’ programmes are being launched to over 1,000 staff at a range of locations across the UK through a programme which started in January.
The Skills for Life programme is supporting Serco employees with improve their everyday reading, writing and maths skills and will offer staff an opportunity to develop and achieve a qualification.
The training is accessible to all employees at Serco and we’re very proud to learn of the first round of training being completed. Six students at the Woolwich escort and court services depot taking either a level 1 or 2 literacy test have now passed with flying colours.
Delivery took place over two days with learners taking their test at the end of day two. Tutor Debbie Brown said: “The group worked exceptionally hard over the two days to meet the criteria of the literacy programme and I’m pleased to announce that they all passed the final test. Well done to everyone!"
The company, whose work ranges from providing essential services for governments and companies to the outsourcing of operations, and even the creation of entirely new businesses, chose the college because of the flexible delivery methods available at its many sites across the country.
Serco will be exploring the sourcing of other vocational courses and apprenticeships in partnership with the college and its recently established Vision Apprentices scheme.
