Students discuss education and culture with VIP
Students at West Nottinghamshire College discussed education and culture with a member of the Indian Foreign Service.
The Consul General of India, Mr C Gururaj Rao, joined over 50 learners for a question and answer session at the college’s Derby Road campus last Friday (28 January).
Mr Rao is based at the Consulate General of India in Birmingham which deals with passport and citizenship issues for people of Indian origin based in the UK.
He visited the college following an invitation by principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE to share his views and experiences with learners across a range of curriculum areas.
Learners heard about India’s growing economy, education system, culture and the importance of family life, and asked questions about its politics, infrastructure and tourism industry.
College principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE said: “Mr Rao talked passionately about India’s size, population, diversity and growing economy. Students enjoyed learning about the country’s rich culture, ancient history and long-standing relationship with the UK.
“The visit provided a valuable opportunity for them to learn about an emerging giant in the world economy and its main factors for success.
“It’s really important we expose our students to different cultures and viewpoints, which broadens their horizons and creates a thirst for knowledge.”
