Gemma’s joy at apprentice awards win
A West Nottinghamshire College student is celebrating after scooping a prestigious apprenticeship award.
Gemma Beardall won the Advanced Apprentice of the Year category at this year's Nottinghamshire Work-Based Learning Awards, held at the East Midlands Conference Centre, Nottingham, on 27 January.
The annual awards, run by Nottinghamshire Training Network (NTN), are held to celebrate and recognise the achievements of individuals and employers throughout the county.
Gemma – an advanced apprentice at HW Martin Ltd in Blackwell, Alfreton, Derbyshire – scooped a glass trophy and £300 worth of Thomas Cook vouchers.
The 23-year-old, from Sutton-in-Ashfield, is studying towards an NVQ Level 3 in Customer Service.
She said: “I felt so proud going up on stage and collecting the award. I’ve had such great support from my tutor and assessor and I’ve really enjoyed my studies. It’s given me such confidence and I’m hoping to progress on to the foundation degree in business and management in the future.”
Gemma’s work-based learning assessor, Nicola Searson, said: “I was so proud when Gemma won the award. She really deserves this accolade and all her hard work has paid off.
“I’ve worked with Gemma for over four years and have seen her progress from an administration assistant at HW Martin to become assistant manager. It’s a thoroughly well-deserved win.”
