Skills for Life studies to be launched with leading service company
One of the world’s leading service and outsourcing companies has joined forces with West Nottinghamshire College to boost the skills of its staff.
Serco Group plc has chosen the Mansfield-based college to provide its employees with vital qualifications. ‘Skills for Life’ qualifications are being launched to over 1,000 staff at a range of locations across the UK through a programme starting in January.
The Skills for Life programme will support Serco employees to improve their everyday reading, writing and maths skills and will offer staff an opportunity to develop and achieve a qualification.
The company, whose work ranges from providing essential services for governments and companies to the outsourcing of operations, and even the creation of entirely new businesses, chose the college because of the flexible delivery methods available at its many sites across the country.
The training is accessible to all employees at Serco, and will commence with courses in Norwich, Woolwich and Filton.
Head of employer engagement at West Nottinghamshire College, Sandra Cowley, said: “Skills for Life qualifications have become a very valuable asset to many companies and their employees and we’re very proud that Serco has chosen West Notts to deliver this first pilot scheme to the business.
“Over the next couple of years we’ll be working closely with many Serco employees at its sites across the country and will ensure study materials are tailored to suit the varied roles of its workers. We’re certain that our strength in offering flexible delivery will ensure the company sees a high success rate with qualifying students.”
Serco’s director of productivity and change, Andrew Thompson, said: “This new relationship with West Notts College is a key component in stepping up our well-established commitment to skills for life. We’re impressed with the college’s focus on the customer and their flexible delivery models.”
After the launch of this scheme Serco will be exploring the sourcing of other vocational courses and apprenticeships in partnership with the college and its recently established Vision Apprentices scheme.
