College takes action to fight bullying
Staff and students are taking action together to support Anti-Bullying Week across all West Nottinghamshire College sites.
‘Taking Action Together’ is the theme for this year's national Anti-Bullying Week (15 to 19 November) and the college has an activity-filled week offering advice and support to learners.
Advisors, learner coaches and the Students’ Union team will be touring college sites on a special bus for a roaming roadshow. The bus, which has been loaned by the Mansfield Youth Service, will enable students to access a range of services and get involved in a debate focussing on bullying scenarios, find out top tips for dealing with bullies through videos and presentations and speak out at a 'question time' session.
The college’s new confidential cyber-bullying support service, which has been designed to protect students when they’re on-line, will also be highlighted.
Students using college computers have access to an 'emergency button' which they can press if they experience bullying on-line and receive confidential advice and support from college advisors.
Associate director for quality and performance, Nikki Witham, said: “Next week is all about raising awareness of the harmful effects of bullying and how we, as a college, can join the national campaign to support students who may be exposed to bullying behaviour.
“We aim to tackle this by encouraging people not to turn a blind eye and by putting robust systems in place to support and advise students with positive action and strategies. We’ll be introducing anti-bullying tutorials so that this subject is always high on the agenda in the classroom.”
The roadshow will be at the following sites from 9am-4pm
Monday 15 November: in the West One diner at the Derby Road campus, Mansfield
Tuesday 16 November: Youth Service bus to visit the college's Acorn Way campus, Mansfield
Wednesday 17 November: Youth Service bus to visit the Construction and Logistics Skills Academy, Station Park, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, and at the Chesterfield Road campus in the Gallery diner
