From Asia to Italy at college's cafe
Students at West Nottinghamshire College’s BAY6 Centre and coffee bar enjoyed a celebration of lights last week.
Learners were finding out about the history of the Diwali Hindu celebration – the biggest festival on the Hindu calendar. They were busy creating Diwali cards and colourful displays and serving Asian cuisine in the cafe.
Programme area leader for access and inclusion, Di Fennell, said: “Last week was a very colourful and exciting week for our students. Not only did they learn about the various types of Asian cuisine but they discovered so much about another culture and the tradition and meaning of Diwali.
“Students took great pride in creating a bright display for the cafe and were very artistic with their array of Diwali celebration cards.”
The BAY6 Centre will be doing their bit for the community once again when they welcome the Age Concern group from Mansfield for lunch next Friday (19 November) during their ‘Taste of Italy’ week.
Menu options on offer during week commencing 15 November will include tomato and basil soup, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, pizzas and tiramisu for dessert.
People can just turn up although parties of eight or more are advised to book a table for by calling 01623 413027.
The college’s BAY6 centre provides a practical training and working environment for students with learning difficulties or disabilities and the cafe is open to the public for hot and cold refreshments.
