Top British athlete to visit Mansfield college
European Champion 2010 and world heptathlon champion 2009, Jessica Ennis, is set to visit West Nottinghamshire College next week (18 November).
Jessica, who has emerged as ‘the face of 2012’, will be meeting with 100 students who will be hosting a sporting ‘Question Time’. Learners will be asking Jessica about her sporting success as well as discussing the forthcoming 2012 Olympics and the values which students are supporting – friendship, respect and excellence.
The 24-year-old double world champion from Sheffield will also be unveiling an Olympic values plaque that the college has secured through the Get Set network – the official London 2012 education programme for schools, colleges and education providers across the UK.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) awarded the college a plaque and certificate to acknowledge its involvement in the London 2012 education programme. It now joins schools and colleges across the UK as a member of the special London 2012 community – the Get Set network - and will receive access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games-related opportunities over the coming years.
The college’s sport co-ordinator, Rachael Evans, said: “We’re really looking forward to welcoming Jessica to the college. Many students have heard of Jessica's amazing sporting achievements and they’ll have some great questions ready for her.
“To have someone as inspirational and motivational as Jessica come to meet our students will be a great way to kick off our discussions about how we are going to be celebrating the forthcoming Olympic Games.”
