College to celebrate double graduation ceremony
Higher education students at West Nottinghamshire College are getting ready for a double graduation ceremony at the historic Kelham Hall, near Newark, next weekend.
There will be 268 students graduating from university-level courses at the college this year. This means the college will be staging two ceremonies to enable everyone to take to the stage to collect their graduation certificates from principal and chief executive Asha Khemka OBE.
Attending the event on Saturday 20 November will be special guest and keynote speaker Gloria De Piero, MP for Ashfield. Also in attendance will be vice-chancellor of the University of Derby Professor John Coyne and Michelle Fraser, associate dean of Leeds Metropolitan University.
The double graduation ceremony will also see 18 students collect Outstanding Student of the Year awards together with two students who will be selected for the Principal’s Student of the Year award for their outstanding performance on their courses.
Over 30 members of West Notts’ own staff will be graduating from courses held at the Mansfield-based college.
Mrs Khemka said: “This will be a very proud day for us all – students, families and staff alike. We continue to see more and more people choose higher education programmes with us.
“Whether this is to continue their educational pathway with a view to going to university, or to increase their career potential in their current jobs, graduating is a momentous occasion for every student. They commit so much time and effort into expanding their knowledge and skills and really do deserve to be rewarded in this way.”
The college works in partnership with Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of Derby to deliver a wide range of university-level courses such as HNDs, HNCs and foundation degrees. The college is now able to offer two full honours degrees in the shape of the BSc in Technical Engineering and Management and the BA Hons in Business Management.
