Students to quiz local MP
Students at West Nottinghamshire College will be grilling a local MP during a ‘Question Time’ style debate next week.
Sherwood MP Mark Spencer will be meeting students at the college’s Derby Road campus on Monday (8 November) when they will pose questions on topics such as the Government’s recent plans to replace the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) with "more targetted support".
Mr Spencer will also hear learners’ views on the future of education as well as the availability of jobs for young people in the area.
The college’s Learner Voice co-ordinator, Sue Harries, said: “Part of our Learner Voice commitment is to enable students to engage with politicians and this will provide them with a great opportunity to find out more about Mr Spencer's aspirations for the area and his views on education.
“We like our students to be politically aware and, for some, next year will be their first ever opportunity to vote.”
Among the students meeting the candidates will be learners from academic studies, public services and the Students’ Union executive committee.
