Great new sporting roles for students
Students at the Etihad Stadium
A group of nine sports students visited Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad Stadium last week to take part in the Association of Colleges’ (AoC) Student Leadership Programme.
This project is designed to support colleges who wish to enhance and develop volunteering programmes for their students.
It also aims to get more students to volunteer in sport and physical activity and to diversify the volunteer workforce. It’s open to any AoC Sport member college, whether they have an existing volunteer programme or not.
To achieve the accredited award, students had to complete the activities and requirements of the programme, evidenced through a bespoke workbook which will allow them to reflect on their achievements and act as a log for future showcases and experiences.
Also part of the project, students had to apply for a particular sport-related job role that they were interested in and wanted to promote around the college.
Physical activity and enrichment coach Paul Adams, who took the group to Manchester, said: “Our group performed brilliantly during the leadership programme and at the interviews.
“They showed real passion and interest, not only in the programme, but in thinking about the range of voluntary job roles that they could commit to, and how they could best deliver sport-related activities and services to our students at West Notts.”
Students who attended the Etihad Stadium tour, and the job roles they will be undertaking alongside their studies, were:
Elissa Dixon, Joshua Gidlow and Alex Gardiner – ECFA football activators
Joshua Bingham and Ruby Anais Porter – inclusion ambassadors
Dylan Staley and Betsy Moore – wellbeing ambassadors
Lily Pattison – This Girl Can ambassador
Millie Hemsley and Sean Roberts – RFU England Rugby ambassadors.
Keep an eye out around the college for the various clubs and projects that the students will be running in the new year.
